Public health advocates say budget cuts will hurt kids

Hundreds of thousands of children and seniors may lose access to healthcare if Sacramento approves Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's revised budget proposal. KPCC's Patricia Nazario says Los Angeles County public health advocates are asking lawmakers to rethink the ways they'll close the state's $24 billion spending gap.


Immigration advocates launch sweeping reform campaign

Activists in Los Angeles are leading efforts to launch a national campaign that would change what they call unfair laws against undocumented immigrants. KPCC's Patricia Nazario says about 200 people marched Monday from Olvera Street to L.A. City Hall.

Patricia Nazario was born in New York City and partially raised in Los Angeles. She's been a news reporter for 10 years, including local TV news in upstate New York and in central Florida.

Taking time away from the camera to earn her Masters degree led her to public radio. Patricia was in the graduate journalism program at Columbia University in New York City when the Twin Towers were attacked on September 11, 2001.

Patricia freelanced from Buenos Aires, Argentina during that country's worst-ever economic crisis. She's also reported from Colombia, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. Before returning to L.A., Patricia worked in Miami.
