State Republicans penalize lawmakers who supported tax hikes

State Republicans held their convention this past weekend in Sacramento and the focus was on six GOP lawmakers who voted last week to increase taxes as part of the state budget. Some convention delegates had threatened to censure the six lawmakers who voted for the tax hikes, but they ended up adopting a watered-down measure. Carla Marinucci, a reporter with the San Francisco Chronicle, was at the convention and spoke with KPCC's Kari Moran about the measure that was approved.

Before joining KPCC, Kari Moran worked as a reporter and anchor for a variety of national and local radio news outlets, including Mutual Broadcasting, AP, NBC, KNX, and KFWB. She has covered many major stories, including the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the Loma Prieta earthquake, and NASA's first space shuttle landing in the Mojave Desert.

In a previous incarnation, Kari developed publicity campaigns for clients in health care, non-profit housing development, and online real estate. Kari developed a love of microphones at an early age, singing before audiences at the tender age of two and a half, and winning talent contests in high school and college.

When she came to Los Angeles in 1969, Kari began her media career as a voice-over artist, singer, and published songwriter, appearing on L.A. TV variety shows and at local folk venues... and even recording "cover" albums for The Carpenters and Carole King.
