KPCC Wins Ten L.A. Press Club Awards

Los Angeles, Calif. (June 13, 2005) - 89.3 KPCC has garnered ten awards from the Los Angeles Press Club.

Frank Stoltze won 1st place in the Use of Sound category, for his report on Measure A, the tax for law enforcement on the L.A. County ballot.

Kitty Felde, host of the daily public affairs show Talk of the City, won Honorable Mention in the Radio Journalist of the Year category.

Call Sheet, the weekly entertainment industry report, won 2nd place in the Entertainment Reporting category. Call Sheet is hosted by KPCC's All Things Considered Host Shirley Jahad, and features entertainment journalists Alex Ben Block, Katie Harris and Brad Pomerance.

KPCC's daily public affairs show AirTalk won 2nd place in the Talk/Public Affairs category, for its remote broadcast from San Francisco on the gay marriage debate in California.

Ilsa Setziol won 2nd place in the Investigative Reporting category, for her report on how improvements to the All-American Canal will mean more water for southern California, but less water for northern Mexico.

Rob Schmitz won 2nd place in the Sports reporting category for his report on the Orange County Crush of the fledgling American Basketball Association.

Debra Baer won Honorable Mention in the Feature reporting category for her story on the murder in Long Beach of a Marine on leave recovering from wounds suffered in Iraq.

John Rabe won Honorable Mention in the Investigative Reporting category for his story on how LA County supervisorial candidate Guy Mato had been accused of abuses when he was an LA County Sheriff's deputy in the 1990's. Rabe also won an Honorable Mention in the Use of Sound category for his feature on the new organ at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Talk of the City won Honorable mention in the Sports reporting category for its segment on the 1979 Crenshaw High School baseball team, which included Daryl Strawberry and was considered by many to be the greatest high school team in history.
