Pasadena, CA (Wednesday, June 3, 2005) - 89.3 KPCC will devote the week of June 6-10 to a series of remote broadcasts, in-depth discussions, feature reports and commentaries on the controversial subject of illegal immigration. The special week of programming, "Illegal Immigration: Benefit or Burden?" will also feature a special web page and online survey of attitudes on how illegal immigration is being managed in California.
Highlights include: a remote broadcast of AirTalk from Sacramento on Monday, June 6th, featuring a discussion of the latest activity in the state legislature on illegal immigration; a remote broadcast of Talk of the City from the federal immigration detention center at Terminal Island on Wednesday, June 8th; and a remote broadcast (taped Thursday evening June 9th, airing Friday June 10th) of AirTalk from Libreria Martinez Books and Art Gallery in Santa Ana, exploring the impact of illegal immigration on that city. The remote broadcasts are supported in part by grants from Southern California Edison.
KPCC's reporters will produce a variety of in-depth stories, including profiles of illegal immigrants, reports on businesses that hire undocumented workers, an examination of health problems confronting illegal immigrants, and the Catholic Church's position on the issue.
KPCC will have a page on its website (www.kpcc.org) dedicated to the special week of coverage. Visitors to the website will be able to participate in "Consider This," an interactive survey that will ask them whether they think enough is being done to manage illegal immigration in California.
