Los Angeles, April 2- On Sunday, April 4th, at 9 p.m., KPCC broadcasts "Passover: A Time for Freedom," a one-hour special that celebrates the holiday with writers, musicians and storytellers, who provide a variety of perspectives on the rituals, music and food of Passover. Passover is produced by Johanna Cooper for ListenUp Radio and the Jewish Community Library of Los Angeles.
"Passover: A Time for Freedom" features writers and artists. Hosted by actor Arye Gross, it includes Iranian-born Jewish writer Gina Nahai who relates a story about the traditional Iranian "tear jar;" humorist and columnist Judy Gruen who gives light-hearted tips about cleaning for Passover ritual; Rabbi Bradley Artson who talks about the freeing of the Jews and freeing up from personal enslavement; and University of Judaism literature professor Miriyam Glazer and Tel Aviv-based food journalist Phyllis Glazer converse about the anthropological roots of Passover food. Also featured are Egyptian born writer Andre Acimen, Los Angeles writer Louise Steinman, and choreographer and storyteller Margalit Oved, among others.
Passover, which begins Monday night, is a time to celebrate freedom. It is the Jewish holiday that recounts the great exodus of the Jewish people from slavery to liberation. It comes at the beginning of spring when life is renewed and the rebirth witnessed in nature echoes the opportunity for personal cleansing and spiritual growth presented by the holiday. Celebrate freedom with this public radio program that explores the journeys of a number of acclaimed Jewish writers, whose contemporary works reflect the Jewish people's struggle for freedom. Listeners will find this special both celebratory and enlightening.
